Araburg

Araburg castle’s unique setting, towering over a valley, offers breathtaking panorama. The tiered nature of the original fortress is integrated in the design of the new hall and visitor installations, built into the natural slope of the topography. The outer ramparts provide a natural boundary for the new visitor centre. A horizontal viewing window is carved in the outer wall of the new great hall framing the landscape for spectacular viewing, enhancing the quality of the castle and the overall experience. The design contrasts distinctly with the medieval setting while sympathetically harmonizing within the original surroundings. Access is gained through a new entrance cut into the defences flowing into the main courtyard with multiple shallow steps continuing to the gate tower and beyond. The visitor centre rises two storeys with an open air terrace or stage providing the visitor with an exquisite panorama and a new perspective of the iconic gate tower.
